C'mon Crooklyn, What's good for the goose should be good for the gander. Y'all can't have it both ways...
can someone provide me with some information on the names and nature of a brochure by the wt with a name something along the lines of "charitable giving"?
upon learning that a close jw relative was diagnosed with cancer, and possibly on their deathbed, the "friendly neighborhood jw hopital group" showed up, had a lengthy closed-door discussion with him one-on-one (wife couldn't be present), and left a brocure and dvd in the room with a title along the lines of "charitable giving" - i'm sorry, i didn't read the full name before it disappeared.
the 'brothers' (*cough* moneyhounders in sheeps clothing *cough*) had already left this "information" and had "discussions" with him before even the family learned of the situation and had arrived.. am i right in thinking this is a "you're soon-to-be-widow doesn't really need that life insurance money" brochure?

since leavng the "truth" some 18 years ago, i am amazed sometimes how often that little 5 letter word is abused.
i have heard so many people attach it to their statements that i basically call into question anything anyone says that is followed by the word "truth".. i bring this up because it really seemed to come at me from many directions this past weekend.
on friday, i was listening to karel who hosts a left wing talks show on green 960 here in the bay area.
His answer: "Truth is what is true at the present. If that changes later on, it does not mean that it was in error. However with new light we now now that it was not the clear truth, but it was still the truth of the moment."
Really?!?!
So if 2+2=40 yesterday and 2+2=4 today we are still OK? Jeez, I guess I should only give you back 4 bucks today for the 40 you fronted me yesterday and we are cool, right?
What jokers...
i am brand new to this forum but have spent hours over the last year on here reading and laughing a lot.
laughter is the best medicine.
i'd like to cast out a topic here- i'd love to hear what some of your thoughts were if any of you were faithful attendees at the sweltering veterans stadium assemblies over the years.
Little Mac, welcome to the forum.
I have not attended, as I have never been a JW, but my wife has shared quite few sweltering and bathrooms-oh-so-far-away memories from the Vet.
My experience - the Phillies and Eagles games
almost three years after quitting meetings, and receiving only the most minimal, perfunctory interest from one elder (one visit six months later and no questions or expressions of interest from the congo members we thought were our "friends") i received a phone call last night from that elder, demanding an explanation for a recent action of mine.
i told him i had no interest in discussing my actions with him and that it was strange that after three years of silence only now has he contacted me for a "chat", because he has taken offence at something.
(so much for looking for the lost sheep ... remember the nov 15, 2008 wt study articles, ""help those who stray from the flock?
A scene from the movie "Witness Protection" comes to mind, where Tom Sizemore's character responds to an offer to become an informant and enter into the program.
Tom says to Forest Wittaker (the FBI officer): "Listen...umm.., Stan, ummm, I am trying to put this nicely...umm...F@#K YOU!!!"

Yknot, looking at the comments that made it through moderation, sister, you have a stillborn...Sorry
moscow (ap) the religious group jehovah's witness says their local leader is being persecuted in russia under a vague anti-extremism law.. the group said monday that alexander kalistratov is going on trial in the siberian town of gorno-altaisk for alleged "incitement of religious enmity and hatred.".
the group's spokesman robert warren said the trial is part of a "larger problem" that jehovah's witnesses have been facing in russia and called the trial a "misapplication" of russia' 2002 anti-extremism law.. human rights advocates claim that law is used to crack down on dissidents and religious groups that russia's dominant orthodox church disapproves of.. in september 2009, a court in the southern city of rostov-on-don banned a regional branch of jehovah's witness and outlawed dozens of its publications.. google_ad_section_end(name=article) copyright 2010 the associated press.

Mad (edited to say "and James Woods"), I have to disagree.
Anti-extremist angle is what gets people's attention in Russia. It is a hot button along the lines of their Chechen problem. Let the few dubs cry persecution all day long, but for the public at large the extremist label would stick much better as a deterrent. Not to mention that the way it started (the JW anti-government brochure) is indeed an extremist approach.
I am sorry but you can't call the current government a return of a Stalinist regime (in so many words) and expect to be dealt with through an educational campaign....

i just found an envelope outside my door.
as i picked it up, it felt a little heavy.
inside, there is an awake, and print-out, and a hand written note:.
I wondered if it was just pure shock on his part. He KNOWS that I no longer want to be a witness, but he's never seen me doing anything blatently anti-jw.
Hmmm, I wonder if he fears bout his standing as an elder and the various "privileges" since you are so out...
i've blogged about my path from missionary to atheist on freeminds - see the latest post here: http://www.freeminds.org/blogs/a-gilead-grad-s-guide-to-leaving-jws/from-missionary-to-atheist-how-is-that-possible-part-1.html.
i haven't shared this aspect of my journey in an organized fashion, so please let me know what you think.... .
cheers!.
Tammy,
Chrome (Google) = Safari (Apple) = Internet Explorer (Microsoft) = Firefox (Mozilla)
I was also getting Safari crashed; Internet Explorer opened the page, although with some script errors...Since you are on Mac, you may want to install and have as a back up Firefox..
hi all,.
what sort of responses do people actually get when you write to brooklyn hq to query subjects like their quote mining and other dubious uses of sources.
i am currently having a bit of a 'discussion' on a popular nz mb with 3 or 4 current jw who are having a hard time accepting that the quotes from their latest pamphlets on evolution, among others are taken out of context, its got to the point where the only answer they are willing to give is to take it up with borg central.. if i actually physically mailed them a letter with a large portion of attached documents, would i get an actual response, photocopies of articles, or filed under wicked slave?.
Archimendes,
Here is a link to scans of actual correspondence between a concerned elder and NY Bethel. Follow the letters from 1998 to 2003 and see how the WT initially evades the questions, then simply blows the brother off, and eventually plays dumb to the point of the elder resigning over the issues. It is an enlightening and interesting read. All credit goes to the AJWRB site of course...
just beginning to open my eyes...my aunt, flyinghighnow is helping me along.
glad to be in a place where people understand.
i guess i'll be seeing you all around.
Yoooo, wazzupppp!
...or, as the not so cool kids say, Hi and Welcome
